I recently did a talk for a group of consultants, about how to be more influential as a change agent, and I spoke about a few principles that I see as the “essence” of leadership. I feel quite strongly that influential, transformational leadership is much less about your strategy and your behaviour, and much more about WHO YOU’RE BEING – although obviously your behaviour and strategy does need to align with who you’re being. So here’s some of what I shared…
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below:

I love this idea! I think I’ll “steal” it next time I meet with my staff or facilitate a leadership workshop.
Funny, I just wrote in today’s post “People will follow an authentic leader, not the one who’s mastered the art of imitating what’s in the books.” Seems to fit quite nicely with what you’re saying!
Heather Plett’s last blog post..Ten things I’ve learned about leadership
@Heather: It’s powerful, isn’t it! I just read your post and I think we’re coming from the same angle. People can smell manipulation from a mile away. Influential leaders are authentic and real. And being authentic and real is a much less stressful and much more fun way of being a leader for the leader too!
Thanks for adding your thoughts.
