michelewoodwardAs usual, I came away from chatting with Michele feeling a little wiser, more encouraged, and a little lighter. And when it comes to goal-setting and creating a framework to get the results you want in life, Michele has an incredibly refreshing and simple perspective.

Two things really stood out to me on this call:

  • Michele said that the most important thing in goal-setting is to first know and like yourself. Know what your preferences are, know what you like and love, know your values, know your priorities, know your strengths and weaknesses, know your handicaps… and like all of it! This is how you make sure that you start where you’re at, face up to all your strengths and weaknesses, and ensure that the goals you set are what *you* really want. So many people skip this step and take themselves down the agonizing route of funneling themselves into working hard and trying to make stuff happen when they don’t really even want that stuff. This is where you need to invest the most time, when it comes to goal-setting.
  • Rather than focusing on the details, Michele suggested that you hold a “thought key” in mind. A thought key is a word or short phrase that reminds you of what’s most important to you right then, rather than trying to focus on all the details of what you want to achieve. So, for example, I’ve decided that a thought key I’m going to carry with me from now is “play”… play in work, play in art-making, play in my relationship with Andy… it’s a theme that I want to bring into all areas of my life. I love the simplicity of this!

There’s so much more in the call, so give it a listen. I got so involved in the call that after the first few minutes, I didn’t tweet along, and it looks like the same happened for the other listeners, so no tweet summary today! Listen to the call – Michele’s got it goin’ on!

Big thanks to Michele for her pearls of wisdom, and also to everyone who joined the call and tweeted along, including @bigbrightbulb, @carrynreddick, @CoachIyabo, @desireeadaway, @sociolingo, GotPassport, @lifeldrshpcoach, and @lauriefoley

Wow, I’m getting HEAPS out of listening in to this call (which, can I say feels a little like eavesdropping!!). Checked out the Tru Values framework and will definitely put that into practice. Thanks so much for all these great resources Cath, I’ve been signed up to your blogs for a few months but am now really taking a lot of time to get as much out of them as I can. Cheers, J.

Thank You Cath and Michelle for such an insightful helpful call! I really liked the idea of bringing in changes from your own values and what brings you joy. The thought key is a great idea as it is so simple and easy to apply. Also by staying aligned to what really matters to you not what is expected of you rang true as well

Happy holiday season to you both
    Love Arabella
